Excavating the essence of the building means subtraction, not addition. The plaster layer is removed from the brick walls, revealing the original form of the old house and restoring its raw texture. Materials are left with minimal processing, retaining their "bare" texture. Old elements are reinterpreted on this basis — as window lattices, as structural components — casting shadows that shift with time, old and new merging.

During the makeover and reconstruction, a slim open hanging shelving, forged by stainless wires and plates, was recessed in the massive brick wall. The wall maintains its original surface intact, presenting the roughness and coarse tactile feelings of the brick materiality. The combination between stainless modernity and old masonry carries out an artful contrast without losing the charm of apartment agedness.
